AIK beat Värnamo but exit the Swedish Cup
A 2–0 home victory could not take AIK through after Trelleborg won the parallel group match.
AIK defeated IFK Värnamo 2–0 at Strawberry Arena on 28 February 2025, but the victory was not enough to secure a place in the Swedish Cup quarter-finals. Trelleborgs FF won the parallel match against Degerfors IF and held on to first place in Group 3.
The home side led 1–0 at half-time and completed a two-goal win in front of 12,225 spectators at the national arena. The result delivered the margin AIK had needed, but qualification also depended on events elsewhere.
After drawing their first two group matches, Mikkjal Thomassen’s team entered the final round without control of their own route through the competition. AIK required the Degerfors–Trelleborg meeting to end level alongside their own victory. That combination did not materialise.
The evening therefore ended with a home win and elimination from the 2024/25 competition. Dino Bavehjani’s photographs document the AIK–Värnamo match in Solna, keeping the performance and the wider group outcome in their separate contexts.
