Mjällby lift first Swedish Cup after beating Hammarby
A first-half winner decides a record-attended final in Solna.
Mjällby AIF won the men’s Swedish Cup for the first time by beating Hammarby 2–1 at Strawberry Arena on 14 May 2026. All three goals arrived before half-time in a final watched by 39,903 spectators.
Elliot Stroud opened the scoring for Mjällby in the 19th minute. Hammarby responded quickly, with Paulos Abraham equalising three minutes later. Jacob Bergström restored Mjällby’s lead at the end of the first half, and that advantage proved sufficient.
Hammarby pressed for another equaliser after the interval. Montader Madjed struck the crossbar, but the Stockholm side could not draw level. The final moments remained tense: Mjällby’s Viktor Gustafson was sent off, and Hammarby appealed for a penalty after Abraham went down in the area. Referee Granit Maqedonci waved away the appeal.
The Swedish Football Association said the attendance broke the cup-final record set in 1944. Mjällby became the competition’s 20th different winning club, adding the cup to the Allsvenskan title they had secured the previous season.
